Take a leisurely ride on a steam train from Brechin Station to Bridge of Dun.
Steam trains officially stopped running on the mainline on 11th August 1968, but here at the Caledonian Railway you can enjoy the delights of steam every summer Sunday.
Take a leisurely ride from Brechin to Bridge of Dun or if you prefer, start your journey at Bridge of Dun. Caledonian Railway offer all day tickets that allow you to travel on as many trains as you wish, they also offer return tickets that allow you to split your journey at either station to give you more time to explore or single tickets for one journey only. The train line is 4 miles long with the return trip taking just under the hour (This includes a 15 minute stopover at Bridge of Dun).
The Angus countryside is magnificent at this time of year and at Bridge of Dun station you have the choice to extend your visit to include a walk up to the National Trust property at House of Dun and its extensive gardens, or a walk to Montrose Basin Local Nature Reserve and catch a later train back to Brechin. The House of Dun is around a twenty minute walk from our station with the Nature Reserve along the way.
Brechin station is only a short walk away from the city centre with the Cathedral and Round Tower in Church Street.
Tickets may also be purchased on the day at the Ticket Office. Cards taken at Brechin Station Ticket Office and Shop only. Regret cards cannot be used in the buffets or the Ticket Office at Bridge of Dun.
