Circuit of Montrose Basin

Route Description

A varied route providing opportunities for some interesting visits on the way.

From Montrose Sports Centre, head north out of the town towards Hillside. Bear left up the hill past the post office. After 4km/2.5m, TL at the Y. 2km/1.25m on, TL at the T. Follow the road for 6km/3.5m and head downhill. At the A935, TR then take an immediate left. After 300m, TL and follow the signs for Maryton and Montrose.

After 2.5km/1.5m, TL at Maryton by the church and war memorial. Follow the A934 and TL to join the A92. At the RBT after 2.5km/1.5m, TL. At the next RBT, TR and follow signs to Montrose Sports Centre. To visit Ferryden lighthouse, at first RBT go SO following SP for Ferryden. To return retrace the route to the RBT and TR.

Points of interest on this route include Montrose Midlinks, views of the Angus countryside, views over Mearns and Glen Esk, House of Dun, the Caledonian Railway, bridges over the River South Esk, the harbour, Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre and the lighthouse.
